Description
Triticale is a hybrid of wheat and rye, first developed in laboratories at the end of the 19th century. When crossing wheat and rye, wheat is used as a female parent, and rye is used as a male parent (pollen donor). The resulting hybrid is sterile and must be treated with colchicine to cause polyploidy and, consequently, the ability to reproduce itself
