Printed gingerbread with chocolate filling. Printed gingerbread is our traditional pastry, typical for Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian cuisine. And even its very name is truly Slavic: “gingerbread” comes from the word “spices”, that is, oriental spices (primarily pepper, cardamom, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, etc.), brought to the territory of Rus' by Indian merchants. It was these spices that our ancestors put in the dough for honey cakes, later called gingerbread.
